Autumn Nights along Seoul's Hangang River: Drone Shows, Night Picnics, and the World of Park Delivery

 Flowing straight through the center of Seoul, the Han River (Hangang) is embraced by 11 magnificent riverside parks. Each park possesses its own distinctive personality, but they all share two remarkable gifts : sweeping waterfront panoramas and dazzling nighttime skylines.

Each park also hosts its own unique, large-scale events

Following last week's grand fireworks festival at Yeouido, another magical evening lit up the sky this week at Ttukseom Hangang Park — the Han River Drone Light Show.

The official Hangang Drone Light Show at Ttukseom Hangang Park is typically held about 6 to 9 times a year.

Hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the shows are split into two main seasons:

  • Spring Season (April – June): Around 3 to 5 shows in total, with roughly 3 to 4 held at Ttukseom and occasional performances at other spots like Yeouido or Jamsil.

  • Fall Season (September – November): Around 3 to 5 shows, mostly concentrated around the Ttukseom Hangang Park Waterside Stage.

The exact number can vary by 1 or 2 shows depending on the year's schedule and tied-in festivals (such as Seoul Festa). Because performances can be postponed or canceled due to rain or strong winds, it is always best to check the official Seoul City or Hangang Drone Light Show schedule before heading out.

A Glowing Night with a Yong Friend

This weekend, I took an evening trip to Ttukseom Hangang Park with a dear friend.

When we arrived at the park, an incredible crowd had already laid out picnic mats across the green lawns, eagerly waiting for the spectacle to begin. 

We found a quiet bench overlooking the water, unpacked the homemade gimbap we had brought along, and enjoyed a cozy dinner together.

The highlight in the sky was a synchronized drone performance celebrating 

Korean Professional Baseball (KBO).
Hundreds of glowing drones floated gracefully against the dark evening sky, forming dynamic silhouettes of batters, team emblems, and glowing baseball bats.


Yet, as spectacular as the technology was, what made the night truly unforgettable was what happened after the show.
Nobody was in a hurry to leave. Drawn in by the crisp, refreshing autumn breeze and the mesmerizing city skyline reflecting on the water, thousands of people stayed right on their mats, chatting, taking photos, and savoring the night.

My friend and I couldn't bring ourselves to leave either. We walked along the riverbank, took photos to remember the evening, and talked for hours under the cool breeze. By the time I finally returned home, the clock had already struck midnight !


What Makes Seoul's River Parks Truly Special : Food Delivery to the Lawn

    Every major Hangang park features designated "Delivery Pick-up Zones." Delivery drivers bring freshly prepared meals right to these spots, so anyone can enjoy a hot meal without leaving the grass.

  • The Famous Hangang Instant Ramen: Every riverside convenience store features automated induction cooker machines. Within three minutes, you have a steaming bowl of freshly boiled ramen in a tin bowl, best enjoyed sitting right by the river edge.

  • Travel Light, Relax Fully : You do not need to pack heavy bags to enjoy a picnic here. Local rental shops right by the park entrances rent out clean picnic mats, mini fold-out tables, picnic baskets, and soft cushions for just a few dollars.

A cool breeze, a bench by the water, a simple roll of gimbap shared with good company, and thousands of people lingering safely under a starlit sky well into the night — this is the genuine charm of everyday Seoul.
